Va bene? Why not va bene-ier ~sorella Cook

The trio life! After sorella Tacchi went home sorella Greer, sorella Cook, and I rocked the trio life for almost a whole week! It was a kinda Lumpy week. not rough but for sure not the smoothest. Sorella Groll is Sorella greets new companion but she didn't come till later and then left again for a meeting in Rome! Now it's back to preaching the Gospel two by two though!  We had some great times this week though, those girls are a riot and kept me laughing the whole time! We did some fun finding too. Because they have both only been here for 7 weeks, together they could hold good conversations and I went and talked to people a few steps away! We talked to so many people! We had lots of great conversations and we try our best to invite people to learn bout Christ and God. It's hard work but I know they Lord is helping us.
It's cooled down in the last few days and we have actually seen rain too!
Funny story this week: I was feeling like baking last week so I tried making these no bake cookies I found a recipe for. They turned out to mostly just be sugar and ricekrispies. They tasted great but we're kinda a fail. The other sisters brought them to  a member though and her niece loved them! She asked for the recipe and said this week she is going to try and make them! If they don't turn out she says we will have to make them together! I decided to bake actual cookies this week because I feel so bad if those are the dolce standard we set!

Other funny story: when we ask people of the want to learn more sometimes they say things like no va bene così grazie. No thanks I'm good like this. Sorella Cook has now come with the reply. Va bene... dont you want va bene-ier!
 Spiritual thoughts this week :
1) Brighter and Brighter until the Perfect Day By Elder Mark A. Bragg "We are children of God. Receiving light, continuing in God, and receiving more light are what we are created to do. From the very beginning, we followed the light; we followed our Heavenly Father and His plan. Seeking the light is in our spiritual DNA."
2) Importance of Christ as Savior. Without the Atonment of Christ we would all perish nonostante our good works. Mosiah 13:28 . He was chosen and prepared from foundation of world. He is the only way.
3)Thou Art Joseph by Elder Kim B. Clark, Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults • May 7, 2017  "The Lord held Joseph to a very high standard, with no excuses. He treated Joseph like the great prophet He wanted Joseph to become. Joseph feared man more than God. He trusted in his own understanding and not in God. For Joseph, repentance was much more than simply saying, “I made a mistake. I am sorry I lost the manuscript.” Joseph needed to overcome the attitudes, fears, and dispositions in his life that were at the root of his sins. And he needed to grow and learn and change all through his life."
4)Why Marriage, Why Family By Elder D. Todd Christofferson
"Brothers and sisters, many things are good, many are important, but only a few are essential. Much that is good, much that is essential—even sometimes all that is necessary for now—can be achieved in less than ideal circumstances. May marriages flourish and families prosper, and whether our lot is a fulness of these blessings in mortality or not, may the Lord’s grace bring happiness now and faith in sure promises to come."
I couldn't decide which I liked best!

I'd love if you wanted to send me a testimony about how you know the church is true, or the book of Mormon, or the prophet. Hearing how others came to know helps me teach I think.
Love you all!

2 baptisms in 1 transfer

Also. I have to say My fav part of Cagliari is bus #8. Bus number 8 climbs the big hill in Centro so you don't have to walk it. Bus number 8 stop conveniently at the bottom of the big hill. Bus number 8 has the best view of the city. Bus number 8 leads you to a lovely park with lots of lovely people. Bus number 8 takes you to the historic district which is where you can take pretty photos. We love bus number 8. The major news of this week is the baptism of Pierre! He is super cool and speaks French! It was a really awesome time.

We said goodbye this morning to sorella Tacchi as she heads home. Tonight we find out who will be coming here to replace her! We had the opportunity to do a scambio this week so I was with her one day and the two newest sorella in Italy took on Cagliari all by them selves and killed it! Missions are places you make lasting friendships.

Kinda funny story this week: We asked for people to notice our light one day and Heavenly father has a sense of humour because that day we got cat-called noticeably more than usual.

Better story: Italians talk. They are really good at just talking. And you just want to listen because it's beautiful and Italian and interesting. Most conversations I have usually include more of them and a lot more "oh si si capito. É vero si" on my part. we visited this lady this week. She is one of the best story tellers I have ever met. But she wasn't telling a story. She was just talking about her week. But it's so dramatic and you are instantly engaged and she grabs your arm and your their with her and you listen and watch and "oh mama Mia! Ci credo. Si si" and then you realize how long you've been there and how little you've covered. And you vow that next time..... well it will probably be the same.

In our missionary meeting this week(DDM) we talked about the talk Fear by Virginia H. Pearce October 1992. "As we concentrate on pleasing the Lord rather than others and continue to work hard, doing the things we don’t know how to do yet, we will experience personal growth. We will increase our confidence in Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. This faith assures us that in the end, we will not only survive but we will know great joy and happiness." She quotes Vincent van Gogh as saying “I am always doing what I can’t do yet in order to learn how to do it.”

Which strangely ecco the wise council I once received from my brother Philip "There are guitar song your know and guitar song you don't know yet."

She also quotes Eleanor Roosevelt “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” (Karen McAuley, Eleanor Roosevelt, New York: Chelsea House Publishers, 1987, p. 105.)We have a new mission zone goal of 3 new people to teach every week. Which is a pretty big stretch for us as we celebrate being able to hold conversations. But If we are in a city it means someone is ready For us to find and teach and help!! As I've tried to think positively and focus on trying my very hardest if found I'm more satisfied with my work. I try my hardest. I have a goal and I want to reach it. Now I feel more committed to the goal it's easier. If I learn anything from my mission it will be goal setting and reaching I think.

Also I realized just how incredible it is to say I am a member of Christ's restored church. The church he established is on the earth. We have the authority to do his work. And I'm a part of it!

A good tip of the week: Gum makes you think you are eating which makes you feel safe (no wonder why stress eating is real)

It got hot again this week for a few days. But over all it feels cooler.

I ate the best lasagne. I would have taken a photo, but I ate it instead. Also the best gelato. It's called Nico and the flavour is peanut butter and chocolate basically. With Fico nero which is black fig flavour. It's okay if your jealous ;)

Today could be a special

Today is a special day because I've completed 8 months on the mission! 😢🤐😂😣😶😕😦😰🤠😋😆😁all the feelings! ...Ive also passed 2 months till 20...

But this was another lovely week. We were able to meet with the lady we were teaching and really just expressed our love for her. We had been a little frustrated, But we both were able to see her through God's eyes and are now a little more humble. Other adventures:
We had the opportunity to go to the baptism of Lucky ! The Anziani have been working with him and he is so amazing! It was awesome! Its worth everything.
I tried starting a conversation with this lady by complementing her necklace. It ended with me taking a picture of her neck and I now have the address and name of the store and necklace. Luckily I actually did like her necklace and I guess next time we will talk more about religion...
Italian grapes on an Italian grape vine! (Pictured)
We did a little gesso or like monstra downtown last night and someone actually just came up to sorella Cook and said I'm interested in learning about your church! We weren't able to exchange numbers but we are praying we can see him and his family  again!  It was super cool and super random!
Miracle- we gave someone an English group card and invited them and then they came !!!! we give out tons of invite cards to English group because 1) everyone is Italian 2) it's a good way to talk to everyone 3) we feel sneaky because we actually want to talk about God. But he actually came! The next day! So that was fun!
We had opportunities to do simple acts of service as we've strived to be more helpful.

Words from the life of Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley (chapter 5 Daughters of God)
"This is a work of miracles. You know it, and I know it."
“I … invite women everywhere to rise to the great potential within you.”
“You are literally a daughter of the Almighty. There is no limit to your potential. If you will take control of your lives, the future is filled with opportunity and gladness. You cannot afford to waste your talents or your time. Great opportunities lie ahead of you.”"
" Faithful to ourselves, to the very best that is within us. No woman can afford to demean herself, to belittle herself, to downgrade her abilities or her capacities. Let each be faithful to the great, divine attributes that are within her."
" Each day is a part of...eternity."
And words from the Prophet Thomas S. Monson (in search of Treasure April 2015)
" Today I have chosen to provide the three pieces of your treasure map to guide you to your eternal happiness. They are: Learn from the past. Prepare for the future. Live in the present."
“The greatest decision I ever made in my life was to give up something I dearly loved to the God I loved even more. He has never forgotten me for it."
"And each morning, I say to myself that this could be a special day. Each day, each hour, each minute, is special."
And each morning I have started to say to myself TODAY IS SPECIAL! and my attitudes changed. And I'm not perfect but if we try to live for today and not for tomorrow we see the miracles and every moment is of more worth. I'm not just waiting for a bus, I'm waiting for a bus in Italia with sorella Cook and living and breathing Italian air and soaking in the Italian sun and saving souls!

"don't wander in the wasteland of self pity"
Love you all! Vi voglio bene! A dopo cari miei! Fate il bene!

How to succeed in your mission without really trying

"How to succeed in your mission with out really trying" by Cagliari B Sorelle studios. It's the new Broadway musical currently in production that in no way reflects any persons living or dead, or reflects the authors true feeling or actions
What a Week. We start this week with farragosto.  Everyone goes to the beach that day so we clean deep our house. And it was a very deeep clean. We had lunch with a very tiny old Italian lady who is a newish member of our church  but doesn't come a lot for one reason or another . She may be crazy. It dawned on us as we tried sharing a spiritual thought and prayer and she just kept eating that we really dont know how the missionaries found her and when she was baptised. She doesnt really leave the house. And can't really remember our names. "Well at least you got pranzo !" You may say. We put our cooking skill to the test under her direction. I think something got lost in translation.
We did a companion exchange also. I was with sorella Greer and we had a  lovely time talking to people! Found beautiful empty park by the opera house. Lots of good conversations! Prayers answers and miracles happened!
But of course we have bad days when you accidently go to the beach again and then try to avoid that happening twice in one day and end up get stuck on the other side of town in a place you don't really know and you are waiting for a bus that you don't know when it will arrive. But we got our steps in and we are still alive.
We have had some good bus adventures! you wonder how these big busses do in Italian streets. Sometimes they don't! And ypu get stuck on a bus or hit the man on the vespa! (He's totally okay by the way)
This week we had our zone conference for all the missionaries on the island. It was amazing! As always! President Pickard is a very inspiring person. Some thing we are focusing on is being better at finding people to teach. We are here to teach, but that doesn't happen till you find that person! So we got some ideas and council about having the faith to find the people. Because you have to talk to the many people who aren't interested before you find the one who is.
I've realized I'm not an optimistic person. I think I'm more of a realistic not learning to the pessamisic side of things sometimes. So that's a new goal I have.
Language tip this week : fish is very different from peachs in English. Pesche e pesca non sono molte diverse in Italiano.
I learned a lot this week but I guess the bit I'll share is you have to believe in yourself, believe in God, and do your best.
As Henry B. Erying says so beautifully in his talk Mountains to Climb in April 2012"It is never too late to strengthen the foundation of faith. There is always time. With faith in the Savior, you can repent and plead for forgiveness. There is someone you can forgive. There is someone you can thank. There is someone you can serve and lift. You can do it wherever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel.
I cannot promise an end to your adversity in this life. I cannot assure you that your trials will seem to you to be only for a moment. One of the characteristics of trials in life is that they seem to make clocks slow down and then appear almost to stop.
There are reasons for that. Knowing those reasons may not give much comfort, but it can give you a feeling of patience. Those reasons come from this one fact: in Their perfect love for you, Heavenly Father and the Savior want you fitted to be with Them to live in families forever. Only those washed perfectly clean through the Atonement of Jesus Christ can be there."

Pictures include the Cagliari view and zone conference!

Charity is Love in Action, and Patience is Living with Weaknesses.

This week! Its been really lovely! We saw some great miracles. We actually had an opportunity one day to practice teaching and then were blessed with the exact opportunity in real life! Super cool!  We knocked on someone's door and they let us in!
We had appointments with 3 different families this week! Its a really awesome opportunity for us to get to know the needs of members and teach them!
We met this potential Maria this week. Or rather she met us! We had gone to her house for an appointment but she didn't answer so we left a little note And went our way. But we didn't feel or know where to go! So we took a bus And tried to go downtown. As we got off a bus this lady stopped in her car "SORELLE SORELLE!!! SONO IO!!! SONO MARIA" she said she was going to meet her friend and we should come, so naturally we got in the car and went! Her friend was so lovely. Maria (who has know the sisters for a long time) started the conversation with whatcha how they pray! Pray sister pray! So we prayed together it was pretty cool!
I met this other lovely lady on the bus named Paola. We talked about families. I'm so grateful for my family. I'm so grateful we have families. Wouldn't be here with out mine! 😉
Italian Chinese food... it's a real thing and it's pretty good!
Italian poutine..... not a real thing but I've decided baked potatoes with pesto and melted gouda cheese makes a lovely substitute!
This week we celebrate Ferragosto. Everyone is heading to the beach! We accidentally took this bus this week that we knew took people to the beach but when they say it goes to the beach they mean it drives directly beside the shore line. It was so beautiful and I saw some flamingos in the wild! But we will never take it again! Comunque- It's going to be a great week!

I've been thinking about improving lately and what I lack yet. There is a good quote from a talk called Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence "acknowledge and face your weaknesses, but don’t be immobilized by them, because some of them will be your companions until you depart this earth life. No matter what your current status, the very moment you voluntarily choose honest, joyful, daily repentance by striving to simply do and be your very best, the Savior’s Atonement envelops and follows you, as it were, wherever you go. Living in this manner, you can truly “always retain a remission of your sins” (Mosiah 4:12) every hour of every day, every second of every minute, and thus be fully clean and acceptable before God all the time."
Yes I have area I can work on, but as long as I do my best I can be happy. And so we live "after the manner of happiness." (2 Nephi 5:27)

I love you all ! Don't give up hope! Love and be loved and live. Be patient with others. Be patient with yourself.
....isnt There a song like that?

We matched kinda this Sunday so we had to take a photo!
Language study!

It's hot all over.

You may have heard things are warming up in Italy. Its true. Most people are at the beach. We are not. And that's okay!
This was a lovely week non the less! We are trying our best here. You think you know an area, and then you manage to get lost
Practically everyday. It's actually a little impressive. A little disheartening. But we aren't discouraged! We may be a little low on teaching and finding but that means we will be heading Onward and upward. We have been doing a lot of practice role plays to help us with our ability to teach and talk about who we are. It's help ful for the language but also it makes you get to the point. We are here and we are teaching about Christ. Let's not beat around the bush ;) so we have tried to do that a little more this week and it's been awesome!  It's interesting to hear who Christ is to different people. Who's is Christ to you? Friend? Stranger? Brother? Helper? Saviour?

Spiritual thought this week: "From latter-day revelation we know that the Godhead is comprised of three distinct and separate beings: our Father in Heaven; His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost. We know that “the Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.”
My message today focuses on the importance of the Holy Ghost in our lives. Our Father in Heaven knew that in mortality we would face challenges, tribulation, and turmoil; He knew we would wrestle with questions, disappointments, temptations, and weaknesses. To give us mortal strength and divine guidance, He provided the Holy Spirit, another name for the Holy Ghost.....The Lord knows the needs of all His children—and He knows who is prepared to help. If we let the Lord know in our morning prayers that we are ready, He will call on us to respond. If we respond, He will call on us time and time again and we will find ourselves on what President Monson calls “the Lord’s errand.” We will become spiritual first responders bringing help from on high." I'm trying my best to be a first responder here in Italy. It's hard but it's worth it. God wants to talk. Do we listen? And do we know his voice?

Highlights of this week include :
Wedding - we sang in the choir which was lovely! Amare Gesù our savoir love which is one of my fav!
Lunch today was super yummy!
Gesso or like a mostra we lay out a sheet in centro and do surveys! = 1 hour long English conversation about God! In English too!
even more getting lost and found again
Bought a dress today! Its the end of sale season here!
Found touques (we are canadian)
We saw delfini (dolphins)
It's still hot.

Vi voglio benissimo! Fate i vostro meglio! È Dio vi conosca! Non scoraggiate  e non temere!
Alla prossima!!

Two Canadians walk into a church in Cagliari...

Wait a second you said 2 Canadians?! That's right two (2) Canadians are now preaching the gospel here. They happen to be companions too! Her name is Sorella Cook! From Alberta Canada! I didn't realized how patriotic I am until she said "eh" and I felt at home. She only just recently got here to Italy so we are learning together! We get lost but that's okay! We have had a lot of experiences already of people asking if we are Mormons right out of the blue! It's been a great way to talk to people that's for sure!

I was living the trio life a little this week. One sister in our house went home this week! I love sorella Carver and luckily techniqually I can still call her that! So her companion joined us as she left Monday morning. After transfers were announced sorella fielding was able to tell me about her work because I am now Cagliari Sorella B instead of A. Sorella Tacchi is also still here. We just got split up with new companions! It's been strange having my old companion so only one room over close! But fun too! It's been an interesting few days seeing just how well i actually know the city!
It also came to me this week my spirit animal. (Drum roll please) A Badger. Sneaky. Cute. Funny. .... I'm still debating so please feel free to give your input.

I'm so gratefulalso for the amazing people I've met. There are some people who deal with so much heavy stuff but carry on so gracefully.its amazing. I'm humbled to be in their presence. I've been given so much in my life I've taken for granted.

I studied a little this week about the power of God on earth. Or what is known as the priesthood. This is powerful stuff that has been given to man to act in God's name to accomplish His work.and right now I'm a part of that! In our church we have the super cool and amazing blessing of the line of authority. Every worthy priesthood holder can trace where he got his priesthood back to Jesus Christ! And usually that l ones not to long! We have this amazing blessi g so we can bless other. In fact Heavenly father gave us the admonition in D&C 121
39We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.
40 Hence many are called, but few are chosen.
41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile
43 Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;
44 That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death.
45 Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.
Sorry that's kinda long but it's so good when you ponder it out. We have such an amazing powerful gift but we are to use it only with the Lords purpose in mind and with love.

The adventures this week include preparing for a new missionaries arrival, fancy water glasses, pizza basil, sorella cook! Also they have these little baby gecko lizards here. One found it's way into the church! It is still hot so no major weather news.

I love you all so very much!

Sorella Lalonde

"It's like the desert, all we need are camels"

t's been another beautiful and hot week. I've found a very good conversation starter is "Mama mia! Che caldo fa oggi!" Or Goodness me! Its so hot today! (Though literally translated : my mother, how hot it makes/does today!....more or less)
There's your Italian lesson for the week!
I had the opportunity to work with two other sorelle this week Sorella Carver who just went home today 😢 and sorella Cardullo in Sassari which is located at the top of Sardegna.
I loved working with Sorella Carver, she is such a lovely example of striving right till the end, Never giving up, Loving the people, finding joy in the little things.
Sorella Cardullo was in the Napoli zone with me so it was super fun to see her again! And Sorella DeMann who replaced me in Battipaglia! It was a fun strange little reunion!she is amazing at talking to people. At one point I was just listening and learning from this conversation we were having with two girls. Afterwards I realized I should have talked too and helped her out but I didn't even know what to say! It was a great time! Sassari is a beautiful city!(Group picture)

Other adventure: we drove the car on an 1 hour adventure to visit a lovely lady.
We had an amazing ward activity!
We saw dolphins! (pictured)
We made lasagne (pictures)
We made meatballs and brushetta for pranzo or lunch with a member! So good (picture)
Celebrated the end of a mission with mega gelatoes! (Pictured)
And We bought a mega watermelon! Anguriamo (meaning: we watermelon. Not something real people say)

Other good quotes of the week:
If we always look in the mirror thinking we are enough we never grow.

Il Vangelo e sempre gioia. Anche se le circostanze sono infelice.(the gospel is always joy. Even if the circumstances are unhappy.)

It's true our purpose it to help people be ready to be baptised and show Our Heavenly Father they are ready and willing to walk the path of disciple ship but "If we baptised a person without a testimony, we baptise a sack of potatoes."
Fratello Floris we rent just walking the streets trying to baptise people, we are trying to help people have a good day. A good life. And I am lucky because I have found joy and peace and a lasting happiness in my faith/living this gospel and in my saviour Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father . But if you don't want to know more or be baptised, that's your choice. We cannot steal others right to choose. That is a sacred gift.
That is a little what I studied recently. Also about repentance being a joyful process of change and of improving! Sometimes that word seems negative, but it's just changing and becoming better! We should rejoice for the opportunities to improve!
